The Star: How do you like teaching here at Incarnate Word?

Mr. King: Good, so far, the students are wonderful. The schedule is a big adjustment, but I am slowly getting used to it. The other teachers are very helpful and everyone has made me feel very welcome.

The Star: What was your previous job before coming here to Incarnate Word? Are you happy you made the change?

Mr. King: I was a major in the United States Air Force. My job was as an Intelligence Officer. I am very happy with the change. I love being a teacher and I am so happy that I no longer have to wear a uniform.

The Star: Do you find it easier or harder teaching at an all girls’ school?

Mr. King: It sounds crazy, but I don’t even think about it. I just see students, not boys or girls, but just students. For the nine hours a day that I am at school, I completely forget that I am at an all-girls’ school. I also think that since IWHS is an all-girls’ school, it makes the environment less stressful.

The Star: How do you like the modular schedule? Do you find it convenient?

Mr. King: I like the modular schedule because of the flexibility it provides and because it’s similar to a college schedule. I do wish the mods were 30 minutes instead of 20 minutes.

The Star: What are some things you enjoy doing outside of work?

Mr. King: I love to ride my bicycle. I have completed several century rides (100 mi). I also enjoy riding motorcycles. I remember when I was eight years old and received my first motorcycle. I have been riding ever since. I also enjoy spending time at the lake and eating out with my wife and two kids.

The Star: What is the greatest challenge working here at I.W.H.S.?

Mr. King: I love literature and teaching; therefore, I always have a hard time keeping my lessons to only forty-three minutes. I always have a lot more planned than I have time to finish in class.
