The Environmental Science Club, sponsored by Incarnate Word High School environmental science teacher Mr. Killmer, has big plans to take a stand on environmental issues and concerns within the school community.

This club is taking control of the recycling of paper, bottles, and cans within the school, and has planned numerous projects for the upcoming school year, ranging from planting trees to raising money through the sale of pet rocks and flowering plants to donate money to water treatment funds, all in the hopes of raising awareness of environmental issues.

The club will also be sponsoring a Student Water Action Team (SWAT) this year, in which a handful of club members will be conducting a project concerning water conservation and water treatment concerning the water at Incarnate Word.

Founded last year by IWHS senior Samantha Duffy, this club has been formerly named “Tree-huggers Anonymous” and the “Environmental Agency.” She is “really excited about Environmental Club this year,” and said that, “I’m really proud of how people have stepped up and participated. This year will require a lot of work, but it’ll be really fun as well!”
